Structure and governance

CALHN is responsible for promoting and improving the health of people living in central metropolitan Adelaide and the broader community through the delivery of integrated healthcare and hospital services.

While the primary catchment for CALHN is Adelaide’s central metropolitan region, a substantial number of people from rural, remote, interstate and overseas locations also access CALHN services.

This is due to the Network’s program of highly specialised and state-wide services, which include:

• The Royal Adelaide Hospital
• The Queen Elizabeth Hospital
• Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre
• SA Dental services
• SA Prison Health Service
• SA Pathology
• SA Medical Imaging (SAMI)
• SA Pharmacy
• BreastScreen SA
• DonateLife SA
• sub-acute and mental health services.

CALHN's Governing Board is accountable to the Minister for Health and Wellbeing for the delivery of health services within CALHN and has responsibility for:

• safe, high-quality and accessible services
• being reflective of local values, needs and priorities
• being sustainable within the resources available.

Each Governing Board will:

• appoint its LHN’s Chief Executive Officer (as vacancies occur) after consultation with the SA Health Chief Executive
• have responsibility for delivering safety and quality in their LHN
• oversee the efficient, effective and economic operation of its LHN’s health services and budget to achieve the LHN’s performance targets
• establish strong relationships with local communities and frontline health professionals, particularly through the development of clinical and community engagement strategies.

Our Board brings together diverse skills and perspectives to support our aim of becoming a high performing Local Health Network improving the health outcomes and well-being of the community we serve.

Together they are multi-skilled professionals with expertise that spans strategic leadership, finance, health services, management, governance, Aboriginal health and more.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), CALHN is accountable to the Governing Board. The CEO has responsibility for the operational management of our services.

The Board has oversight of our strategy, risk management, governance and performance, and provides strategic direction in conjunction with the CEO.

CALHN’s Executive Team reports directly to the CEO and consists of the organisation’s Executive Directors who each hold an executive portfolio.

The Executive Team meets regularly to consider operational decisions, review performance and steer CALHN’s operational management.
