Learn about the Volunteer Services Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), what we do and how to become a volunteer at the hospital.

Volunteers at the RAH play an important role by generously giving their time to support staff, enhancing the comfort and wellbeing of patients and their loved ones.

Volunteering is your chance to:

  • give back and be a valued part of our community
  • help people who are often going through difficult times
  • make new friends with other volunteers and staff
  • learn new skills and get some great experience.

Our volunteers support patients, visitors and staff in a range of roles across the hospital.

Volunteer musicians are also featured in the RAH foyer, with priority going to piano, guitar or singers. A piano is available on site.

We are always looking for positive and enthusiastic people to join our team of volunteers, with roles available at the RAH, Hampstead and Repat Health Precinct.

Anyone wanting to volunteer is required to go through a comprehensive recruitment and selection process.

To be eligible to volunteer at any of our sites, you must be:

  • over 18 years of age
  • able to commit to a regular shift each week for at least a six to twelve month period (time off is acceptable)
  • fit and able to perform allocated volunteer roles
  • committed to our organisational values and ethics of caring, excellence, integrity, respect and unity
  • keen to help improve the experience of our patients and their loved ones, including elderly people and those from diverse backgrounds.

In addition, you must be willing to:

  • adhere to CALHN immunisation and COVID-19 vaccination requirements
  • complete an interview
  • undergo a criminal history screening check
