Learn about the different hospital rooms before your stay at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) including facilities, location and support.
The RAH is designed to be a welcoming and healing environment. Throughout its construction, architects, healthcare professionals and community members worked to ensure that every design element and building feature would help to create the best possible patient experience.
Landscaped gardens and courtyards are located within two minutes of every patient room, providing ready access to a variety of outdoor areas for respite, refreshment and physical therapy.

There are 700 private overnight patient bedrooms, each fitted with an ensuite, television and visitor seating and an additional 100 day beds enabling a loved one or carer to stay overnight where it is in the patient’s best interests to do so. Large windows provide natural light and views of surrounding parklands and gardens.
The RAH is one of the first hospitals in Australia to offer 100 percent single overnight patient rooms. In addition to delivering enhanced comfort, privacy and healing, single rooms minimise the risk of cross infection and enable more care and therapy to be delivered at the patient’s bedside.
The general inpatient rooms are a spacious 23 square metres, including private ensuite.
There are an additional 10 bariatric rooms available, as well as negative pressure rooms.
