There are a number of ways to enter the RAH, whether you're arriving by foot, public transport or vehicle.
- From Port Road (west), there are traffic lights allowing vehicles to enter and exit the hospital facility. This direction also has a pedestrian crossing.
- From West Terrace, at the intersection of North Terrace, Port Road and West Terrace, there is one lane for in-only traffic to the drop-off zone for taxis and patients, as well as access to Outpatients, Inpatients and the Day Surgery.
- From North Terrace (east), if arriving by car continue over the North Terrace, Port Road and West Terrace intersection to the traffic lights allowing vehicles to enter and exit the hospital facility. This direction also has a pedestrian crossing.

The main car park is located underground on Levels 1 and 2 and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
For visitors wanting short-term parking only, a two-hour 'pay and display' zone is near the Emergency Department on Level 2.
Patient drop-off and pick-up zones on the grounds of the RAH include:
- Level 1, next to the Section E, F and G lift lobbies
- Level 2, in front of the Emergency department entrance
- Level 2, outside the Section B/C lift lobby
- Level 3, in front of the main entrance.

Many regular bus routes have stops within close walking distance to the RAH.

Visitors can travel to the RAH by train, getting off at the Adelaide Railway Station which is the central terminus of the Adelaide Metro railway system.
The Adelaide Railway Station is located approximately 900 m west of the hospital. If you are arriving by foot, it is a 15-minute walk along North Terrace with a footpath connecting the two sites.
Train passengers can also transfer to the free city tram service located directly in front of the Adelaide Railway Station. Ride two stops, arriving within 100 m of the RAH front entrance.

The tram line runs past the RAH, with a stop located on North Terrace adjacent to the main entrance prior to the intersection of Port Road and West Terrace.
Travel within the Free City Tram Zone from South Terrace to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre is free.
Motorists are encouraged to park their vehicles at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Park 'n' Ride facility and travel into the city by tram.
All trams are wheelchair, scooter and assistance dog friendly.

A taxi rank is located in front of the main entry on Level 3.
A free taxi booking phone service is available at the enquiries desk in the main foyer.

Free bike racks and end of trip facilities are located below the terrace next to the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) building.
For those arriving by motorcycle, there are more than 150 pay-to-park spaces available in the RAH car parks.
Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS)
The Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS) is a state-wide subsidy program that provides money to pay for some travel, escort and accommodation costs for rural and remote South Australians who travel over 100 km each way to see a specialist.

South Australia operates a user-pays ambulance service, meaning treatment and transport costs by ambulance are charged to the patient receiving care.
If you are transported to or from the hospital by ambulance or between hospitals at request, patients are responsible for payments of any SA Ambulance Service accounts for transport.
