The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital provides a specialist service for the diagnosis and management of diseases and conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract and liver.

We care for patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal system and liver including:
- bowel cancer screening
- inflammatory bowel disease
- liver disease
- gastroesophageal reflux disease
- GI motility
- Coeliac disease
- pancreatic and hepatobiliary diseases.

Gastroenterology has close functional links with the surgical gastroenterology, offering comprehensive services to patients. Surgical units include:
- upper gastrointestinal surgery (LINK WHEN LIVE)
- colorectal surgery (LINK WHEN LIVE)
- pancreato-biliary surgery (LINK WHEN LIVE)
You need a referral letter from your GP or medical practitioner to access this service.
Once referred, we will contact you within clinically recommended times, depending on the waiting list length. If there is no waiting list, you will receive an appointment booking letter, or we will contact you to arrange a suitable time.

The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology continues to look at ways to improve health outcomes via clinical trials, which are essential for the development of new medical treatments.
